Hi. Hope you are all taking care of yourselves and breathing properly. I’ve been asked to do a monthly feature on here of music, movies and books that I’ve recently consumed. This is some of what I’ve been getting into and would recommend during these strange, testing times. Take care.

MUSIC
I made this sad lockdown playlist. Listen to it HERE

NEW ALBUMS

The Weeknd – After Hours
A new pop god appears. House of Balloons has also been on heavy rotation.

Waxahatchee – Saint Cloud

Bongeziwe Mabandla’s – iimini
New album by an absolute icon. Watch him live if you ever get the opportunity

SONGS

The 2 new Car Seat Headrest songs ‘Can’t Cool Me Down’ and ‘Martin’

Ecco2K -Time

Alice Phoebe Lou – Witches
Song and video’s great

Roxy Caroline ft Gourmet – Remember
More of this please

Sega Bodega – U Suck

Been into UK based record label NUXXE’s output with artists such as Sega Bodega, Coucou Chloe and Shygirl

MOVIES
I’ve rewatched some enjoyable, easy watching classics like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, Dazed and Confused, Groundhog Day and The Big Lebowski. I think a happy sense of familiarity can help in these uncertain times.

Also recently rewatched Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind and damn, that movie is good.

Portrait of A Lady on Fire
Underseen movie from last year

Moffie
New local film that you can stream online HERE

Chunking Express
Something not in English and I just always love recommending this to anyone who will listen.

TV SHOWS

Curb Your Enthusiasm
Season 10 is as good as anything Larry David has done and he is exactly what we need right now.

BOOKS
To ease yourself into reading if you like me have found doing anything a little more difficult than usual then A Cup of Sake Beneath the Cherry Trees by Yoshida Kenko is a great place to start. Mindfulness basically.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ collection of linked short stories, Strange Pilgrims

Denis Johnson – Jesus’ Son
Dark subject matter not for the faint-hearted so maybe just do some research before picking it up.

The Autobiography of Gucci Mane
This book is such an easy page-turner and quite inspirational.
Gucci’s a hero.
